K-Blog is Born

This year I’ve been posting on Facebook quite a bit with fairly lengthy posts on a range of important topics, like the role of vomit in education, trends in Swedish marketing and Malaysian boars on the loose in Texas. Important stuff, always.

A few well-intentioned friends have lately suggested to me that I should spread my writing about society a little more widely than I am accustomed to doing, which often means scribbling notes on paper airplanes and sending them across the room, or reaching a handful of readers on Facebook. (And if you’ve read my Facebook posts, thank you!)

I have decided to call their bluff and start a blog, though whether the wider world will want to hear what I have to say remains to be seen. I looked online at some how-to articles on blogging. Very interesting! I am, apparently, now a ‘blogger,’ and this is a ‘blog,’ which is short for ‘web log,’ though I think it could also be ‘we blog.’  The articles are full of timely advice, like ‘write frequently,’ ‘write about something you know,’ and ‘find a niche.’ Writing frequently isn’t a problem, but the niche thing–what’s that about? Do I really need one? A blog for pink flamingo lawn ornament enthusiasts! A blog for three-quarter inch washer and bolt enthusiasts!

I don’t have a niche, so here’s the deal, world.

I’m going to maintain this blog, but it will be nicheless. Sorry. If you want nichiness, ye shall have to seek elsewhere. What you will get are articles on music, language, linguistics, art, history, travel, science in a broad way, musical theater in a Broadway, personal relationships, society in general, education, school, parenting, and…anything else that strikes me in the moment as curious, absurd or fun. So I guess that means anything at all–the antithesis of ‘niche.’ No haiku, though. But darn it, I can’t even promise that–I’ve been known to let loose with a timely and cutting haiku on the rare occasion. But very likely no haiku or poetry.

Welcome to K-Blog. I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Niches are SO yesterday… I am so glad to know that this blog will be so much more current!! Just say, “Ni to Niches!” That’s what my knighted friends always say!

By the way, Neil wants to know if a K-Blog is anything like a K-Cup? “Caw-fee” talk, apparently.

  2. “….BY GEORGE, I THINK YOU’VE GOT ttt IT ttt ” Thanks for the inclusion.

    And…
Toeless George mutters that he’s alive, well, removed from his benign toe tumor that was confirmed not to be cancerous and impatiently waiting for the day he’s liberated from socks and “bootys” which try to discourage dwelling on the itchy reality of his pinky skinned toe gap.

    1. Nancy–I’m unfamiliar with ‘K-Cup,’ but it sounds trendy and important, and I’m sure that I do need to know about it if I’m going to maintain my social status. It’s coffee talk? Might that be…a thousand milliliters of coffee? I guess that would make it one liter…or ten trips to bathroom. No matter what, based on ten.

    2. Richard–glad to hear that George is on his way to a full recovery! Fortunately for dogs, they don’t live in the past–I’m sure he’ll be right as rain as soon as the booties come off–
